When Love Found the Light | The Light that Led Me

Love has a way of finding its place — in the quiet, in the laughter, and in all the spaces between.
This month, I’ve been revisiting the couples who reminded me that love shows up in so many forms. Some stories were simple and quiet, some were loud and full of life, and all of them were threaded together by light.

These January sessions — an elopement, two weddings, an engagement, and even a love story that bloomed later in life — taught me how connection looks different for everyone, but feels beautifully the same.
Each reminded me that what I capture isn’t just romance; it’s trust, timing, and the courage to open your heart again and again.

Andrea & Joe — January 10th, Messina Hof Winery, Fredericksburg, TX

Some love stories unfold quietly, far from the noise and bustle of the world — just two people, a promise, and the sound of wind moving through the vines.

Andrea and Joe chose to elope at Messina Hof Winery in Fredericksburg, surrounded by winter light and the stillness of the Texas Hill Country. Their day was beautifully planned and guided by Joyful Elopements, who helped create the perfect space for their intimate celebration — simple, relaxed, and full of heart.

They brought along their sweet dog — the perfect witness — who trotted between them as they said their vows under the trees. It was one of those small, quiet moments that carry more emotion than words ever could.

Both Andrea and Joe serve in the military, and there was something profoundly grounding about the way they stood together that afternoon — steady, strong, and deeply connected. Their love carried the kind of calm that only comes from knowing what truly matters. No big audience, no rush, no distractions — just two people choosing each other with quiet confidence.

The light that day was crisp and golden, slipping through the vines and catching on Andrea’s hair as Joe smiled at her like she was the only thing in the world. I remember thinking how fitting it was — this balance of strength and gentleness, of service and stillness.

It reminded me that love doesn’t always need a grand stage. Sometimes it just needs presence — a place to breathe, a loyal dog at your feet, and someone who makes even the smallest day feel infinite.

Hailey & Lucas — Engagement Session, Downtown Comfort, TX

Every once in a while, a couple shows up to their session and instantly reminds me why I love what I do.
Hailey and Lucas were that couple — stylish, quirky, and completely themselves.

We spent the afternoon wandering through downtown Comfort, Texas, chasing good light and even better laughter. Every corner seemed to match their energy — a little bit vintage, a little bit modern, and entirely authentic. Hailey’s sense of style was effortless, and Lucas brought the same charm and humor that kept both of us laughing the entire time.

There was something magnetic about them — the way they’d fall into step together, exchange quick glances, or start laughing before I even lifted my camera. They weren’t trying to perform; they were just being.

And as the sun started to fade, we turned on some music and ended the evening with a mini dance party right there by the river. It wasn’t planned, but that’s what made it perfect — the kind of unfiltered joy that reminds me what love really looks like.

Their session taught me that sometimes the best moments aren’t posed or polished — they’re the ones that happen when you let go, dance a little, and just let the light find you.

Breanna & Aaron — January 21st, Classic Winter Wedding

Some weddings stay with me long after the photos are delivered — not just for how beautiful they were, but for the people who made them unforgettable. Breanna and Aaron’s day was one of those.

They celebrated a classic winter wedding at Spinelli’s in Comfort Texas, filled with pinecones, deep reds, and soft maroon tones that felt warm against the cool January air. Everything about the day reflected who they are — thoughtful, steady, and full of heart.

At the time, they had one little girl, who added a sweet touch to their day — twirling in her tiny dress, giggling between hugs, and reminding everyone what love looks like when it’s pure and uncomplicated. Now, they have two daughters, and watching their family grow has been such a gift.

Breanna isn’t just a bride I once photographed — she’s become a dear friend and one of my biggest supporters. She’s encouraged my business in countless ways, always cheering me on and reminding me that the work I do matters.

There’s a special kind of gratitude that comes from photographing the people who believe in you — the ones who’ve walked alongside your journey and trusted you to capture theirs.

The light that day was soft and golden, wrapping around them as they said their vows. I remember thinking how much warmth can live in a winter day — not from the sun, but from the people who fill it.

Their wedding was more than a celebration; it was a reflection of everything this series is about — love, loyalty, and the beauty of growing together.

Lois & David — A Love That Danced into the Light

Every now and then, I get to photograph a love story that feels like pure joy — the kind that reminds you that it’s never too late for love to find you.
Lois and David’s wedding was one of those.

They’re both in their seventies, and from the moment I met them, I could tell their story was something special. When I asked how they met, Lois smiled and said, “We met dancing with friends.”
And honestly, that told me everything I needed to know about them — their energy, their joy, their willingness to keep moving toward life hand in hand.

When I asked about their proposal, she shared that David had asked her to marry him at The Empty Cross in Kerrville, surrounded by stillness and peace. It felt so them — meaningful, spiritual, and rooted in gratitude.

Their wedding was simple and sincere — no big production, just the kind of celebration that fills the air with laughter and tears in equal measure.
And when they said “I do,” the music started, and Lois and David danced down the aisle to their love song.
Not just a few steps — a full, joyful, couldn’t-help-themselves dance that had everyone clapping and smiling through tears.

It was one of those moments I’ll never forget — a reminder that love doesn’t fade with time; it ripens. It grows softer around the edges but stronger in the middle.

Photographing them reminded me why I call this series Where the Light Led Me.
Because sometimes, the light leads us right back to joy — to dancing, to laughter, to love that refuses to dim.

What the Light Taught Me About Love

Looking back on these love stories, I’m reminded that light doesn’t just shape a photograph — it reveals what’s already there.
Whether it’s the quiet promise of an elopement, the laughter of an engagement session, the gratitude of dear friends, or the gentle devotion of love found later in life, each moment carried its own kind of glow.

Love has taught me to slow down. To notice the way hands find each other without thinking, the way light bends to meet a smile, the way joy and stillness can exist in the same frame.
Every couple I’ve photographed has shown me something new about tenderness — and about trust.

These sessions weren’t just about documenting a day; they were about witnessing connection in its purest form.
And as I look ahead to the next stories in this journey, I can see how those early lessons — patience, empathy, presence — became the foundation for everything that came after.

Because love, like light, always finds a way to lead us home.
